The CBI filed a charge sheet in the court of chief judicial magistrate, Srinagar against six doctors, five advocates and two persons for allegedly preparing false reports, fabricating evidence and inducing and threatening the witnesses to give this incident the colour of rape and murder.
The CBI also accused these persons of trying to implicate the police/security forces in a false case of rape and murder of the two deceased ladies to defame, discredit and cause injury to the personnel of the police/security forces.

A separate complaint has also been filed against a policeman before the court, as he has been found to be the author of an anonymous letter which was sent to the Shopian police station to mislead the investigators.

The CBI stated that the investigation has revealed that as per the medical and forensic findings of AIIMS / CFSL team, Neelofar and Asiya were not subjected to sexual assault and that they had died due to drowning.

The CBI gave a clean chit to the four police officers, who were earlier arrested by the special investigation team (SIT) of the police for destroying the evidences in the case.

The family of the girl and the woman rejected the CBI report. “It is yet another cover up operation by CBI to shield the guilty,” said Shakeel Ahangar, brother of Asiya and husband of Neelofar. Majlis-e-Mushawarat Shopian (MMS) spearheading the agitation in Shopian also rejected the CBI report. It gave a call for general strike in Kashmir on Tuesday.
