A slight argument between two toddlers over sharing toys at their home in Cottonpet here on Saturday night had a rather tragic fallout.
The mother of one of them committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan, the police said.
Suma, 22, a homemaker, locked herself up in her bedroom and reportedly hanged herself from the ceiling fan after her in-laws scolded her for beating her two-year-old son who had quarrelled with his cousin over toys.
Police said Suma, known to be short-tempered, had lost her cool after her child fought for toys. She then beat him up.
As the child started crying, her family members huddled together in her room and scolded her for punishing the child over such a trivial matter.
They are said to have warned her against beating the child ever again, the police said, quoting her family members.
Suma got so distraught that she locked herself up in her bedroom and hanged herself from the ceiling fan.
