The Upparpet police raided some shops and arrested six men engaged in changing the International Mobile Station Equipment Identity (IMEI) numbers of mobile phone handsets using specially developed software, and recovered 66 handsets, four computers and four pendra software boxes, all valued at Rs 5 lakh.

The suspects were identified as Tannu Pasha, 32, Haneef Sait, 28, Shabaaz, 24, Ravi, 47, Uday Kumar 23, and Mohammad Haseeb, 24.

On a tip-off, police raided shops at National Market, Burma Bazaar, S P Road and J C Road and arrested the suspects. They had installed Z3X, Android Multiple Tools in computers to change the IMEI of handsets. It would be virtually impossible to trace a handset or ascertain if it was being used only with the help of IMEI number.

Tracing handsets whose original IMEI numbers were changed was impossible, police said.
