Three people were arrested by the Central Crime Branch sleuths for blackmailing a 68-year-old doctor after filming him in a compromising position with a woman.

Sunil, a transport desk manager in a vernacular news channel, Hemanth, video editor from another vernacular news channel, and Mallesh, a constable attached to KG Nagar police station, have been arrested, while film actor Nayana Krishna and her associate Riya, said to be part of the gang, are absconding.

On June 16, the gang went to the doctor’s home on the pretext of seeking treatment. While the doctor was in his room, they sent one of the girls for medical consultation. After some time, both of them indulged in “obscene activity” which the suspects filmed through the window, police said.

Later on the suspects showed the video clip to the doctor, threatening to leak it to the news channels if he did not pay them Rs 11 lakh.

The doctor paid Rs one lakh in cash as advance and promised to pay the rest later, police said. When the suspects started pestering him for the remaining amount, he approached the CCB on Thursday and lodged a complaint.

Based on the details given by the doctor, the sleuths laid a trap and caught the three, and handed them over to the High Grounds police.

“During interrogation, it came to light that Nayana and Riya were also involved. Sunil and Hemanth told the doctor that they are from a news channel and it is easy for them to leak the video clips, while Mallesh claimed to be a CCB police officer and demanded the money or else a case would be registered against him,” police said. Nayana and Riya acted as “witnesses” to the episode, they added.
