Five killed in accident

The accident occurred when a jeep in which they were travelling, hit a bus belonging to the North East Karnataka Road Transport Corporation, that had been parked on the roadside for repair.

The deceased have been identified as Lakshmi (45), Poornima (40), Pooja (8), Deepak (7) and a six-month-old infant. The deceased were residents of Bharathi Colony, near the University of Agricultural Sciences in Raichur. They were on their way to attend a naming ceremony at a relative’s house in Kallur village, Manvi taluk, said the police.

The other three injured - Lakshmi, Ramu and Gangadhar - are undergoing treatment at the Government Hospital.

A case has been registered at the Raichur Rural police station.
