Speaking to Deccan Herald, Brahmavar CPI G Krishnamurthy informed that the incident took place around 11 pm after the devotees offered pre-Christmas prayers , which ended at around 7 pm and left the church.
The grotto is 100 metres away from the church. Reason for the attack is yet to be ascertained.
He said, “Udupi DySP Jayanth Shetty is probing into the incident. We are confident of tracing the culprits within three days time. Fingerprint experts and dog squad have been rushed to the spot.”
Udupi SP Praveen Pawar, DySP Jayanth Shetty and Udupi Tahsildar Prasanna were among others who visited the spot.
