Main suspect in question paper leak arrested

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sleuths on Monday arrested the main accused in the alleged question paper leak of the Railway Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) examination.

Divisional Personnel Officer (DPO) Shivanna, whose house was raided on Sunday by the CBI, surrendered at the CBI office on Bellary Road. He was later arrested and produced before the court.

On a tip off, CBI officers had raided a flat belonging to one Shivaramaiah in Dinnur in R T Nagar on Sunday and arrested 13 ALP job aspirants.

The job aspirants were reportedly waiting for question papers. Based on their revelations, the CBI officers raided two flats in RT Nagar and arrested Work Study Inspector of South Western Railways Mahesh, his associate Shivaramaiah. However, Shivanna had managed to escape.

On Monday, Shivanna turned up at the CBI office at Ganganagar on Bellary Road. The CBI sleuths arrested him and produced him before a special CBI court. Meanwhile, CBI officers produced the arrested candidates and other accused too before the court on Monday. The court remanded the aspirants in judicial custody, while Shivanna, Mahesh and Shivaramaiah were remanded in police custody till Saturday.

“The aspirants said that they were promised question papers on the day of the examination. The advocate who acted as middleman assured question paper and answer keys for the Railway Recruitment Board exam,” an official said.
