The State government has appointed IAS officer B S Ramaprasad as the special advisor to Special Investigation Team (SIT) in the Lokayukta, established to probe illegal mining.

The appointment has come in odd circumstances since Ramaprasad was Secretary Commerce, Industries and Mines between 2008 and 2011, the period SIT would be probing for several illegalities in regard to renewal of mining leases.

Ramaprasad, who was till recently Governor H R Bhardwaj’s secretary, took charge as the special advisor two days ago.

He was secretary Commerce, Industries and Mines from September 2008 to August 2011.

A legal aide to Bhardwaj is also reportedly all set to join the SIT.

Four weeks ago, Lokayukta Justice Y Bhaskar Rao had reportedly written to the State government seeking the appointment of Vikas Bansode, who was Bhardwaj’s legal aide, as the legal advisor to the SIT.

The State has cleared the terms and conditions for the legal advisor’s post which states that the post will be on a par with a secretary rank.

It has not yet appointed Bansode for the post.
