Three minor boys in west Delhi allegedly gang-raped a seven-year-old girl on Sunday after luring her to a park on the pretext of giving her a particular variety of mango that she loved.

The juveniles, aged nine, 12 and 14, allegedly forced her to indulge in unnatural sex. The accused  are neighbours of the victim, who lives in a slum at Meera Bagh in Paschim Vihar.

The three were allegedly aware that the girl had a special liking for Dussehri mangoes and had purchased a few on Saturday.

Around 9 pm on Sunday, the three called the girl from her house, promised her the mangoes and asked her to meet them in a nearby park. The girl readily agreed and followed them to an isolated corner of the large park. The dense trees in that part of the park prevented anyone from hearing the girl’s cries for help, said a senior police officer.

“The boys first ate mangoes with the girl and then allegedly gang-raped her. When she fainted, they left her there and fled from the park,” the officer told Deccan Herald. They had subjected her to unnatural sex, leaving her injured.

The victim woke up sometime later and left the park crying in pain. Some locals noticed her and took her home, where she narrated the entire incident to her mother. “Her mother, a daily wage labourer, approached the police  at about 11 pm. The girl was taken to hospital where she was administered medical aid. Medical tests have confirmed the allegations,” said the officer.

The girl’s statement was recorded after her condition improved. Meanwhile, the three boys, whose parents take up odd jobs to sustain themselves, had returned to their homes after the incident. Police apprehended the trio on Monday morning.
