Last Updated 07 July 2014, 20:36 IST

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha’s close aide Sasikala’s husband Natarajan was arrested by Tamil Nadu police on Monday in connection with alleged cheating case.

Arrest was made against the back drop of a complaint lodged by city-based Karate expert and sculptor Sihan Husseini, police sources here said. The complainant has accused Natarajan of not paying him the due money in a sculpture contract worth about Rs 2 crore and threatening him when he asked for the money.

Natarajan had entered into a contract with Husseini for making a huge sculpture to be installed at the Mullivaaikaal Memorial at Thanjavur, constructed by a pro-Tamil group to highlight the “genocide” of Tamils in Sri Lanka during the last phase of the war between Lankan army and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

However, Natarajan did not pay the amount to Husseini even after the work was over. The complainant alleged that Natarajan paid only a few lakh rupees in advance. When he demanded the balance amount, Natarajan allegedly threatened him.

Police sources added that Natarajan, who was held in Sengottai in Tirunelvelli district, might be brought to Chennai for further interrogation.
