<p>Two alert constables, on night beat, attached to Malleswaram Police Station thwarted a theft attempt at a jewellery shop located on Margosa Road under Malleshwaram police limits in the early hours of Tuesday.<br /><br />According to police, Ponnappa, head constable and Ramaswamy, police constable, were on night patrol. <br /><br />While they were on Margosa road at around 2 am, they heard a noise near Raj Jewellery shop. <br />Near the entrance, they noticed a man running off to the rear side in the narrow gap between the jewellery shop and a neighbouring shop. <br /><br />The constables tried chasing the miscreant but in vain, as he had jumped the rear wall and escaped. They found two hacksaw blades, a hand glove, one cutting plier and a water bottle.<br />Ponnappa said they heard a noise and as they approached the shop, they noticed the man escaping. <br /><br />The miscreants had pasted a white paper on the CCTV camera fixed outside the shop, so that their act is not recorded. <br /><br />DCP (North) Sandip Patil said the two alert constables had averted a major theft. The owner of the shop was later informed about the theft. The police have sought the footage of the CCTV camera placed inside the jewellery shop . <br /><br />A complaint is yet to be lodged by the shop owner. The two constables will be awarded, the officer said.<br /><br />Mobile shops raided<br /><br />CCB sleuths carried out a raid on three shops on SP Road selling fake mobile phone accessories on Monday.<br /><br />The sleuths raided Maruthi Mobiles, two other shops with the same name, Rajeshwar Mobile Accessories and arrested four people. They recovered fake mobile phone accessories worth Rs 4 lakh. <br /><br />They used to sell the accessories under the brand names of Samsung, Sony, Nokia and others.<br />When the arrested were quizzed, they said that they got the supply of the accessories from Mumbai and Delhi. </p>.<p><br />Chain snatching: 3 held<br /><br />The Mahadevapura Police recently arrested three persons involved in chain snatching. <br />The arrested Mani, Saleem and Raja, all residents of Udaynagar, confessed to the crime upon interrogation. The police recovered two gold chain worth Rs 1 lakh and two bikes used to commit the crime. <br /><br />Woman’s chain snatched<br /><br />Two bike-borne miscreants made away with a gold chain from an elderly woman in OMBR Layout under Ramamuthy Nagar police limits on Tuesday morning.<br /><br />Police said Kasthuri Subramaniam, 58, was taking her dog for a walk near her house at 7 am, when two miscreants who came on a bike made away with her gold chain weighing 80 gm. She raised an alarm and neighbours rushed to nab the miscreants. But they sped away with the chain.<br /><br />Two-wheelers recovered<br /><br />The Mahadevapura police arrested a person and recovered nine two-wheelers. Joseph, a resident of Yelahanka, used to lift vehicles from Hebbal, Mahadevapura, Jigani and surrounding areas. <br /><br />He targeted bikes parked in front of residences or deserted areas. He used to open the locks of the bikes with duplicate keys and make away with the vehicles, police said.<br /></p>
