Rs 3,470 cr for Metro Phase 3

The Union Budget allocated Rs 3,470 crore for expansion Delhi Metro lines in the national capital region on Thursday.

For construction of Phase III, Rs 838 crore was allocated, Rs 763.15 as subordinate debt for Phase III under the land acquisition and Central taxes.

A pass through assistance of Rs 1,723.13 crore was also allocated.

Rs 145.81 crore was granted for expansion of Metro lines to Faridabad and Bahadurgarh in Haryana.

“The funds provided in the Budget are adequate for the ongoing works of DMRC project currently.

As the project progresses during the year, it would be possible for DMRC to approach the government for more funds in the form of revised estimates and supplementary as required from time to time,” said a DMRC spokesperson.

Last Budget

In the last year’s Union Budget, the Centre had allocated an amount of Rs 2,576.61 crore for Metro’s expansion.

The Phase III of DMRC is supposed to become fully operational before the end of year 2016.

After its completion, the city will have 13 more interchange hubs, which include Hauz Khas, INA, Rajouri Garden, Mayur Vihar phase-I, Azadpur, Netaji Subhash Place, Lajpat Nagar, Anand Vihar, Karkardooma, Welcome, Kalkaji Mandir, Botanical Garden and Mandi House stations. Currently, only Mandi House to Central Secretariat stretch of the Phase III is functional.

These interchanges will curtail the distance between two different part of the city by 15 km at some locations.
