Seeking an identity through creativity

Playing with colours and designs is where the creativity of a designer lies. It turns into their forte when they present their collection infront of the audience and are applauded for their work.

Sticking to this simple concept of turning creativity into their strength and establishing identity into fashion world, students of Inter National Institute of Fashion Design (INIFD), East Delhi branch, presented a fashion show ‘Hues and Styles’ recently at The Ocean Peral Retreat, Chattarpur.

Models sashayed down the ramp in outfits designed by the students of different batches. Piyali Sarkar along with three of her friends presented a collection inspired from the tradition of India.

“Our theme was ‘Incredible India’. We tried to revamp traditional into modern style by mixing the two together.

Forthis we chose four states- Punjab, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Assam and worked upon their traditional attires.”

Just like Piyali’s group, there were other groups too including first and second year students who presented their collection on different themes.

Like black spark, wild passion, namaste Egypt, first crush, jump into funk, Vandematram, beyond the box, cosmos, soul of modern beauty, mysterious girl, splash, Nirbhaya, step out with confidence, my soul mate,  night glam, dandiya ras, Iskonic Yogi, Namo- fashion with political passion, lacy fantasy and illusions attitude.

Vandana, who presented her collection on Iskonic Yogi says, “Our thrust was on Lord Krishna. So our collection was colourful. Instead of going with the Indian colours we chose the English palettes to create a distinctive work. More so, we played a lot with floral prints to establish the connect with the theme.”

Director of the institute Sharad Kumar says, “Each and every theme was unique and different from one another. It showcased how students in our institutes are looking at fashion from different perspectives.
It gave them an opportunity to explore their creativity.”

To support the students top fashion designers like Rahul Mishra, Rajdeep Ranawat, Geetanjali Ranawat, Niket Mishra, Jainie Mishra and Amir Zakir were also present at the fashion fiesta.

the highlight of the show was Miss India Earth 2012 Prachi Mishra who walked the ramp and enthralled everyone present in the audience.
