Dutee leaves camp

Last Updated 15 July 2014, 16:57 IST

Sprinter Dutee Chand left the National camp in Bangalore for her home in Odisha on Tuesday after doubts were expressed over her gender.

The Sports Authority of India had conducted a gender test on the promising sprinter after doubts surfaced a couple of months back.

The result of the test is not yet known.

Dutee had made a sensational start to her career and was expected to feature in the World Junior Championships next week in Eugene, Oregon, from July 22 to 27.

The 18-year-old recently won two gold medals, in the 200 metres and 4x400M relay at the Asian Junior Championships last month. She was also a finalist in the 100M at the World Junior Championships in Donetsk, Ukraine, last year.

India had encountered a gender issue at the 2006 Asian Games where Santhi Sounderrajan, a silver winner in the 800 metres, had her medal taken away after failing a test.
