The Minister assured the Governor that the government will submit a detailed action taken report on mining in the State in a day or two. The CM is in Delhi.  Acharya, who held discussions with the Governor for nearly an hour following the CM’s direction, is learnt to have informed Bhardwaj about steps taken by the Government on the issue.

However, the Home Minister chose to call it a routine visit. “There is no political significance attached to my meeting. Among other issues, I briefed him about mining also,” he told reporters.

The Governor had recently written a strong letter to CM Yeddyurappa asking him to submit an action taken report following Lokayukta report on illegal mining in Bellary. The CM, in his belated reply, had just stated that the Government will look into it.

Acharya further said the government has set up a committee of top officials on implementing the Lokayukta report. Besides, the government has written to the Centre to conduct a joint survey of disputed boundary between Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh near Bellary, he added.

Asked about the Governor taking exception to the Government’s inaction on the issue, Acharya said, “the Governor has not commented on the issue. He has only forwarded a representation given by some organisation on the issue to the Government. The Governor, in fact, told me that he is part of the Government and that he will never criticise it,” he stated.
