Phones have become an important part of our lives and there are a range of covers and pouches for them. These not only protect them but are also trendy. They reflect one’s personal style and are becoming a rage now.

One doesn’t have to stick to the usual black and white covers as there are a number of colourful covers with exciting designs available. Cartoons, animal prints, beads, animations and floral designs are just some of the many options available in stores.

Just walk down Brigade Road and you can easily find a number of stores selling mobile covers. Since most phones nowadays are touch screen, they need extra care.

“People with expensive phones go in for flip covers to protect the screen. But back covers are more popular as they are vibrant and funky,” says Irfan, a shopkeeper at Dubai Plaza.

One can choose from a number of geometric or animal prints and even themes like Pokemon and Angry Birds. One can even get the symbol of his or her sunsign. “I keep changing my phone cover every six months. A new cover gives the phone a completely new feel. I just love it,” says Ranjana, an air hostess.

Besides back and flip covers, one can also go for pouches that completely cover the phone. These come with a long strap and can be used like a sling bag. The covers also come in a variety of materials like leather, which gives a classy and sophisticated look; cotton, plastic and silk with heavy zari patch work.

While embroidered hand-made pouches have an ethnic look, hard covers provide an excellent grip and are durable.

Some mobile covers not only protect the phone but also allow one to receive calls without having to flip open the cover. These are comparatively expensive but have more uses. Some of them can even be used to keep the identity cards. Since they are reasonably priced, one can buy a number of them and use them accordingly.

The prices start from Rs 150 and go up to Rs 1000. “Trendy covers make my phone look classy and I love matching them with the outfit I wear,” says Meghana Abraham, who just passed out of Montfort College.

Even boys are a big fan of these covers. “I look at how protective a cover is. I have a leather case and it protected my phone from a fall once. I love army prints as they are very manly,” says Nitish, a professional.
