Many parents shift their wards from Vibgyor High school

Last Updated 01 August 2014, 22:03 IST

Parents of Vibgyor High Marathahalli are making a beeline to various schools in their vicinity seeking admission after they  decided not to send their children back to the same school following the rape of a six-year-old girl on the school premises.

Taking a leaf out of the tragedy, and much wise by the bitter episode, the more fortunate ones are busy making a beeline to various schools in their vicinity seeking admission for their children.

Sure enough, schools around have opened their gates. If Chrysalis High has admitted around 50 students for different classes, Greenwood High too has opened its doors to over 50 students.  Oakridge International School is another which has opened its door.

Admission fees waived off

Lest it be seen they are cashing in on the unfortunate episode, many schools such as New Horizon Gurukul and Chrysalis High have waived of admission fees for new admissions, while Gopalan International School has provided concession towards admission fee. Few schools have also waived off transportation cost for the quarter.

According to a parent, who secured admission in another school for her ward, most international schools keep their admissions open throughout the year as many foreign students seek admissions sometime in September.

“Getting admission is not a problem, but paying the admission fee is. Many parents who have already paid the fee are continuing their children with Vibgyor High as there is doubt about refund of admission fee,” a parent said.

Another adding changing my daughter’s school is my way of protesting as I do not want to continue in an institution where culprits are still sitting housed. “The school is shameless not have been open about the incident even today. I do not want to send my child to a school run by businessman with no ethics,” the parent added.

Although many parents have not sent their child to Vibgyor High and are anxiously seeking admissions in other school, the school, has, however, said they have 83 per cent attendance with all classes running full strength on Friday.

Candlelight vigil

Parents of Vibgyor High, other school parents and social activists will hold a candlelight vigil Saturday at various locations in City at 8 pm.

At Marathahalli, it will be held at Vibgyor High premises.  The march is organised by The Fighters — Bangalore against Rape and Whitefield Rising. Details of location at various places are available on Facebook.
