Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday visited former BJP leader Jaswant Singh, who was in a coma for the second consecutive day at the Army Research and Referral Hospital.

Singh sustained a head injury after a fall at his residence. He was brought to the hospital unconscious by his family.

Modi enquired about the condition of the 76-year-old politician, who underwent a surgery late on Thursday. A statement from the Prime Minister’s Office said, Modi “spoke to Jaswant Singh’s family members at the hospital, and hoped for his speedy recovery”.

“Former defence minister Jaswant Singh is still on life support systems. His vital parameters are stable, but he continues to be in a coma,” the defence ministry said in a separate statement.

A government statement said he is being constantly monitored by a team of neurosurgeons and critical care intensivists at the hospital.
