Students to work on twin nano satellites

The process of launching the country’s first twin nano satellites by students, got underway with the inauguration of the Student Satellite Training Programme (SSTP-2) here.

Prof U R Rao, prominent space scientist and chairman, PRL Governing Council Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Head Quarters, Bangalore, inaugurated the programme.

Called the STUDSAT-2, a team of students from seven engineering colleges led by those of Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology (NMIT) will be involved in the designing of the satellites.

An earlier version of the project called STUDSAT was responsible for sending the first pico or miniature satellite into space. Lauding the effort, Prof Rao who spoke on the occasion said that there was a need to make more efforts at space exploration.
