Mathematics programme on Akashvani Bangalore from today

To encourage the learning of mathematics and to create awareness among the public on the same, a programme called ‘Sankhya Samapannaru’ will be aired by Akashvani Bangalore every Sunday, from August 10, between 9.05 am and 9.35 am.

The programme will have 26 episodes of 30 minutes each.

The programme is a joint project by Akashvani, Vigyan Prasar-New Delhi and Karnataka Rajya Vijnana Parishat.

Apart from disseminating information on skills of maths, the listeners will also be introduced to background, life and achievements of famous personalities such as Archimedes, David Hilbert, Srinivas Ramanujan and others.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Programme Executive, All India Radio (AIR) Bangalore, Sumangala S Mummigatti, said, “The format of the programme will be drama, and children will also be a part of it. It will be aired in Kannada. We have been doing this programme for the last seven years on various topics. The programme will be telecasted simultaneously at Mysore, Bhadravathi, Dharwad, Gulbarga as well as in Bangalore. In the coming days, we are planning to come out with a book documenting all the episodes of the programme.”

Contest after every episode

Sumangala said that at the end of each episode, there would be a contest for the listeners, where they would be asked questions based on the information aired during the episode and the selected winners would be awarded with prizes.
He added that the contest was not just for students, but for adults as well.

In 19 languages

“The programme will be aired in 19 languages across the country from August 10 at different timings,” Sumangala said.

Station Director, AIR, Basavaraj Sagar who was present on the occasion said that they were hoping to receive a positive response for the programme.
