Last Updated 11 August 2014, 19:51 IST

Having drawn severe criticism from various quarters for its failure to check the mushrooming hoardings and flex boards, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Monday said that it had removed 9,872 unauthorised banners and flex boards in the City.

However, the civic agency has collected only Rs 5,000 out of the penalty of Rs 15,000 it levied on violators.

As per the information given by the Palike on Monday, it removed 9,872 banners during the drive conducted from July 22 to August 11.

The maximum number of flex boards were removed at Yelahanka zone (2,581), followed by East zone (2,382). However, the drive failed miserably in Mahadevapura and Dasarahalli where only 55 and 69 banners and posters were removed.
