'Cinema is really magic'

Unravelling experiences

Upcoming Bollywood actress Aditi Rao Hydari, known for her roles in ‘Rockstar’ and ‘Murder 3’, was in the City for Bangalore Fashion Week where she walked the ramp for Mumbai-based designer, Lalit Dalmia.

The young starlet took some time off her schedule to talk to ‘Metrolife’.

According to her, some people are meant to be in front of the camera. “I think some people are just dramatic and that is what they must do. I don’t think there is any other option,” she said. She added, “I used to dance and I have been doing it since I was five years old. It is very similar to acting although dancing is more stylised and acting is more realistic. But I have always loved performing. As a kid, I would play photo-photo and stand in front of the camera and make everyone take my picture. Everybody knew I would get into the artistic field.”

She, however, still cannot believe her luck and believes the films industry has become kinder to newcomers. “I never imagined I could have joined the movie industry without having any connections. But I think the industry as it is today, for our generation, is a much more open place. So there are people like me, Parineeti Chopra or Aditya Roy Kapoor who have started out by doing smaller parts and have progressed to mainstream cinema and doing protagonist parts. So it is a good time for us,” she said.

How does she go about selecting her roles? “Again, it is very instinctive. I wasn’t born in Mumbai with a filmi background, so I have learnt along the way. For me, I also believe that the films are made by the directors and producers. They are the people who tell the story and bring life into our characters.”

She plans to continue acting as long as she can. “It is addictive; cinema is really magic! I would love to do a film with Sanjay Leela Bhansali and that would be my dream role.”

The actress will be seen in a few films this year and has already signed up for more projects. “I have just finished a film called ‘Guddu Rangeela’, which is directed by Subhash Kapoor, and a Manish Jha film. I am also starting a film with Farhan Akhtar and Amitabh Bachchan, which is directed by Bijoy Nambiar - he is the most amazing director. So this is what I am doing just now. And there are more things that will happen soon,” she said.

Aditi beamed when asked about Bangalore. “I have always loved Bangalore because I have been coming here since I was a kid and my grandparents have a holiday home here. I have a lot of memories here plus it has the perfect weather and beautiful gardens. There is a little place in Malleswaram called ‘Veena Stores’ and I love their idli and vadas,” she said.
