Asphalt materials catch fire

Waste material and drums containing tar—dumped on the roadside—caught fire near Hunasemaranahalli in Yelahanka on Friday.

Police suspect that somebody might have thrown a burning cigarette on the materials which are used to asphalt roads, and this caused the fire. Two fire tenders rushed to the spot and took about half an hour to douse the flames.

The police said that they had asked the authorities concerned to clear the road. It was a minor fire but could have turned into a major inferno, they added.
