New Peenya bus stand to reduce burden on KBS

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, on Thursday, inaugurated the Peenya satellite bus stand.

The new terminal is expected to reduce the burden on the Kempegowda Bus Station (KBS) to a great extent.

The KSRTC is planning to operate 1,021 schedules in a phased manner from the ‘Peenya Basaveshwara bus terminal,’ which will become functional from September 1.

Two-storey terminal

The two-storey terminal has 26 basement platforms and 17 platforms on the upper floor.

The terminal has been constructed at a cost of Rs 39.25 crore and on six acres and 22 guntas. Buses bound for Panaji, Mumbai, Shirdi, Pune, Goa, Hubli, Belgaum, Gulbarga, Bijapur, Bidar, Mangalore, Hassan, Chikmagalur, Shimoga and Dharmasthala will operate from the new terminal. Buses from Nelamangala depot to Tirupati, Tamil Nadu and Mysore will be operated from the Peenya bus stand via the ring road.

Under the first phase, 136 express buses of Hubli zone will be shifted to Peenya bus stand; in the second phase 151 express buses of Hospet and Bellary zone will be shifted; in the third phase, 150 express buses of Shimoga zone, in the 4th phase, 416 express buses of Hassan zone and in the 5th Phase, 168 Tumkur non-stop and Pavagad zone express buses will be shifted. The fare will be cut for two stages for buses shifted to Peenya.

BMTC will provide bus services from various layouts to the Peenya bus stand. Around 38 Samparka Sarige buses will be operated by the Bangalore Central Division between KBS-Peenya as is being operated between KBS and Mysore Road bus stand.

With the Metro construction work going on at KBS, some buses operating to other parts of the State and other states have been shifted to Mysore Road bus stand, Shantinagar, Baiyappanahalli (NGEF) and Kalasipalya bus stands.

Special features

Some of the special features of the Peenya Basaveshwara bus stand are commercial complex, parking facility, well-equipped lavatory, advance reservation booking counter, canteen, luggage room, passengers’ waiting lounge and passengers’ rest room.
