Rainfall brings respite

Moderate to heavy rainfall was reported in some districts in the last 24 hours. The rainfall has facilitated sowing in several districts, bringing respite to the farmers.

In Shimoga

The district received good showers providing respite  from the heat on Thursday. Sagar received heavy rain for about an hour in the evening. Hosanagar, Sorab, Shimoga, some parts of Thirthahalli and Bhadravathi received moderate rain for a short period. 

Shikaripur received a good spell of rain for about 20 minutes. 

In Davangere

As many as 49 houses were damaged in the rainfall that lashed various parts of the district in the last two days.

In a press release issued by the district adminstration, Additional Deputy Commissioner Ibrahim Mygur said the damages have been estimated at Rs 4.90 lakh.According to taluk-wise details, eight houses were damaged in Davangere, three in Honnali, nine in Channagiri, 25 in Harapanahalli and four in Jagalur taluk. 

Crops valued at Rs 7.5 lakh have been destroyed. People residing in low-lying areas in the City and towns faced inconvenience as rainwater gushed into the houses.A total of 15.8 mm rainfall was recorded in the district on Thursday. 

The highest rainfall of 22 mm was registered in Channagiri, 21 mm in Harapanahalli, 20 mm in Jagalur, 9 mm in Honnali, 15 mm in Davangere and 7 mm in Harihar.

In Tumkur

Tiptur taluk in Tumkur district received good rainfall on Thursday. Several houses in the town were inundated. The residents had a tough time, clearing the water from their houses. Several trees were uprooted in Chikkanayakanahalli town blocking traffic for several hours. 

Heavy rainfall for the last three days in the district has brought respite to the farmers. Betageri, Kavaluru and Tigari villages have received good showers in the last 24 hours. 

The bridge above the stream in Hiresindhogi village in Koppal district is submerged. The maize fields in Kushtagi taluk of the dictrict are inundated, while heavy winds were reported in Kushtagi and Hanumasagar taluks.
