Cops arrest 3 men with ammunitions in Kolkata

The Kolkata Police arrested three persons from outside Howrah station late on Saturday morning with a cache of arms and a variety of ammunitions.

All three have been taken into custody and will be presented at a court on Sunday. Senior police officials said that the three, who were loitering around the premises of Howrah station premises around 11:30 am, were picked up based on a tip-off that the police had received on Friday night.

“They were carrying bags, which were loaded with bullets and a variety of ammunition for different kinds of guns, including some sophisticated firearms. They were caught along with the cache,” the official said.

Officials further said that besides the ammunition, the police also seized from them at least six country-made handguns and some other firearms.

“All three of them are residents of Howrah district and they could be the part of a larger gun-running racket. We are presently interrogating them to find out more about the business and their associates,” a senior police officer said.

Police also believe that the three are part of an illegal arms factory, which was recently busted by the police at Dasnagar in Howrah district, a few kilometers away from Howrah station.
