She carries her confidence on her shoulders even when she’s not on the golf course. She’s fun, young and energetic and always wants to do her best, no matter what the obstacle.

Ankita Tiwana

was recently in the city for the Louis Philippe Cup, where she
performed with the amateurs and looked forward to a great tournament. In a chat with Anila Kurian, Ankita shares what her life is like when she’s not aiming high on the golf course.

If not golf, what would have been your alternate career?

Definitely something in the fitness world. Though I would want to explore other areas, this would be my main option.

Your taste in music...

I’d like to believe that I am multifaceted when it comes to the things I like. Music depends on my mood. I listen to anything and everything thrown at me if that’s what I want to listen to at the moment.

Which book are you reading now?

‘Surely You’re Joking, Mr Feynman!’ by Ralph Leighton and Richard Feynman.

Your top 3 books...

The Harry Potter series, ‘Open’ by Andre Agassi and ‘Its Not About The Bike’ by Armstrong Lance.

A place you’d like to explore.

Thanks to golf, I get to travel a lot. So I generally plan to visit places that are close to the location I am at. Since I’m in Bengaluru for a bit, I hope to go to Gokarna and chill for a few days.

How do you spend your free time?

By painting on a plain cupboard I have at home. I also like doing a lot of do-it-yourself (DIY) kind of things for my house.

Do you have pets?

I have 5 dogs and I absolutely love them. They are divided among 3 houses, so each house I go to, there’s someone for me to play with.

Who do you look up to?

I don’t believe in idols; I don’t think it’s fair to the person because you like one thing about them. I am inspired by various things and people around me.

Your thoughts on Bengaluru.

It’s a really cool place with great people. There are a lot of creative vibes here. It’s a city that makes you realise that one can explore more than themselves.

Your thoughts on the Louis Philippe Cup tournament this year...

I think it’s a great platform. It is different from the other tournaments. It’s a place where they’ve brought glamour and sports together; it’s a necessity to advertise both the sport and the players. It helps put them in the correct limelight and I am very excited to be a part of it.

What do you think about the other women pro players who are a part of this?

It’s absolutely great because one doesn’t always find women golfers coming together like this. Though they haven’t brought everyone together, it’s a start and I can’t wait to see how awesome it will be the next time.
