Stressing his RSS background, senior BJP leader from Gujarat, Vajubhai Vala, appointed as Governor of Karnataka today, has said that posts are "immaterial" to him and he is committed to work for betterment of the country.

"No matter where I am appointed, my goal is to work for the betterment of country and ensure that every citizen of India lives a healthy and prosperous life. This can be done even if you are not holding any post or position," said Vala, currently the Speaker of Gujarat Legislative Assembly.

Vala, a sitting MLA of Rajkot-2 constituency, said that posts are immaterial to him. "Posts are not permanent because they come and go. People like me never cared about positions and have spent their entire life to make sure that every citizen lives a respectable life. I will continue to work like that, irrespective of having any posts," the senior BJP leader said.

76-year-old Vala, who is active in public life since 1971, also recalled his days as RSS worker and claimed that it is the RSS ideology which motivated people like him to work selflessly.

"It is not in the blood of an RSS worker to work only when they are given any post. We work till our death. My public life started as soon as I joined RSS and worked for people even if I didn't have any post. And, in future also, I will work for building a great nation till my last breath," said Vala, who earlier served as cabinet minister in Gujarat government.

Vala, who had served as Mayor of Rajkot in early 80s, said," By selecting a Gujarati as governor, the Centre has taken into account the character of Gujarati people."
