Former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa on Thursday night played the good Samaritan when he directed his escort staff to rescue five members of a family whose car had fallen into a channel.

The driver of the car lost control of it when it was on its way from Shimoga to Shikaripur and fell into the Anjanapura channel near the Esur-Chikkajogihalli cross road. The MP, who was passing by in his vehicle, asked driver Shivu to stop it.

He then asked Shivu, S I Huchappa and other staff in the escort team to rush to the family’s rescue.

Shashi, Veena, Shakuntalamma, Chennabasamma and two-year-old Pranav Vijay were successfully pulled out of the channel into which they had fallen. Yeddyurappa then  dropped them at their relatives’ place in Shikaripur.
