A zeal for attitude

Students of Dayanand Sagar College are taking fashion seriously

A zeal for attitude

Fashion Week.

The club was started in 2007 with a few students. Now it has 25 active members and its own make-up men and stylists. Many professional fashion show organisers have admired their shows and the team effort. Hashim, a final-year student of Information Science, is the coordinator of the team of enthusiastic young boys and girls. The club is open to the students of the institution having a zeal for fashion. Right now, 12 girls and 13 boys, who have been picked up through the inter-departmental auditions, are in the team.

“Every year, we conduct inter-departmental auditions to select candidates from the freshman year. We invite professionals from the fashion industry to choose competent candidates. Selected candidates then go through an intense training,” says Hashim.
The club is barely three-years-old, but in such a short span, it has been able to win many prizes including the prestigious ‘MTV Diva -2008’ title, which was won by Priyanka Diwan, one of the members of the team. Many girls, who performed in the team, have been offered modelling assignments for national brands.
Akanksha, a BE first semester student, has recently joined the club. She is yet to perform on the ramp but she is already excited about her first appearance. “Our team is quite well-known. We have already won prizes in 22 college festivals, which in itself is a track record. I am excited to walk down the ramp, change clothes and accessories so often. My team partners are very cooperative and we share a good chemistry,” she gushes.

To support the models, the team has a strong coordinating team. "This team is not just for namesake, we never overlook any minute things but efficiently co-ordinate each part of the show. As a fashion show is a live performance, handling backstage is of pivotal importance. Our success formula is in systematic backstage management. Meanwhile, we are getting tremendous support from the college. They provide us with transport facility as well as financial assistance,” reveals Khasim one of the co-ordinators of the team.
