Jilted garment worker hangs himself

Two people committed suicide in separate incidents under Peenya police station limits on Saturday.

Hanumanthu, 23, a garment factory employee, ended his life by hanging himself at his home in Narayanapura. The incident came to light when his parents returned home in the evening. They informed the police, who shifted the body to a hospital for post-mortem.

Hanumanthu’s parents told the police that he was depressed for some time and was under medication. He was in love with a girl who worked in the same factory. He slipped into depression after she rejected his proposal. He might have killed himself under depression, the police said. 

In another incident, Nagarathna, 24, committed suicide at her home in Dasarahalli. She was married to Manjunath for two years and had a nine-month-old son. When Manjunath woke up Saturday, he found his wife hanging from the ceiling.

Nagarathna’s parents alleged Manjunath harassed their daughter for dowry. The couple fought often and, unable to bear his torture, she ended her life. Police have arrested Manjunath.
