Addressing the inaugural programme of the poets meet at 18th State Chutuku Sahithya Sammelana on Sunday organised by the Kodagu district Chutuku Sahithya Parishat and Chutuku Sahithya Parishat Central Committee at Virajpete Arameri Kalancheri Mutt, he said that poets must have deep knowledge of Kannada literature, lack of which will restrict their writing and versatility.
“Lack of knowledge of Kannada literature and grammar leads to composition of poor poetry,” he opined and added that social commitment and research is lacking in present day poets and poets must write for the sake of literature and not for name sake.
This statement of Chokkadi hurt the sentiment of one of poets in the audience who stood up to take exception. “Your speech is demotivating us. Stop your speech right away,” said the opposer.
Chokkadi went back to his seat without any argument on the spot. District Chutuku Sahithya Parishat President Madhosh Poovaiah intervened and requested Chokkadi to continue his talk. After this Chokkadi took to the dais again, recited two of his poems and concluded the talk.
Dr Sa  Shi Marulaiah presided over the programme. Mysore District Co-operative Union President H V Rajiv and others were present.
