Gunrunner held, 16 live bullets seized

The Kalasipalya police arrested a gunrunner on Monday and seized a gun and 16 live bullets from him.

Police have identified the suspect as Pankaj Rai, 41, a native of Uttar Pradesh. He  was trying to sell the weapon near Kalasipalya bus stand and  based on a tip-off, the police arrested him.

During the interrogation, police claimed, he confessed to having purchased the weapon from one Rakesh, a native of Gorakhpur in UP. He also said that he sold them to people in various parts of the country. In 2011, Bagalur police had arrested Rai and seizing seized several assault weapons from him.

“We are also tracing the people who had purchased guns from Rai. He used to sell it to local goons and businessmen in the City. We are also probing whether there are more people involved in the racket,” a senior police officer said.
