Oh! Calcutta’, a restaurant located on Church Street, offers Bangaloreans authentic Bengal food. The place brings out the unique flavours of Kolkata, a city of many cultures and cuisines.

Bengali, Nawabi, British and continental cuisines are served in this restaurant. The delicacies include a wide range from the nawabi dum biryani, chingri malai curry and kosha mangsho, to the popular smoked hilsa. 

“The challenge is to recreate dishes from old recipes selected through painstaking research in libraries, old clubs and grandmother’s diaries. This plus the innovator in us created the first ‘Oh! Calcutta’.

The restaurant, since then, has been one of the most talked about speciality restaurants,” says Santanu Karmakar, business manager of the place. 

‘Oh! Calcutta’’s steamed creamed cottage cheese with mango mustard with chhana aam kashundi paturi and cottage cheese and green peas croquettes are some of the vegetarian starters at the restaurant.

In non-vegetarian section, there is steamed crabmeat and shrimps with mustard and chillies, steamed bekti with king of lime and khushi and fish tikka dhakai style.  For the main course, the restaurant presents prawns in a traditional coconut cream curry and prawns cooked in a creamy coconut gravy.

It is best eaten with steamed rice, which is a speciality from Bengal. There are also dry cooked chicken with green chilies and fresh coriander, pot roasted mutton with traditional spices and classical railway mutton curry.

For all the sweet lovers, there is spongy cottage cheese roundles soaked in sugar syrup, homemade date palm jaggery ice cream and the restaurant sundae, stemmed flavoured cottage cheese to feast on.
