Woman held for rape of 6-yr-old

A woman, who had abetted her paramour to rape and murder a six-year-old girl recently in Mahadevapura, has been arrested in Rajasthan along with her paramour and husband.

The Mahadevapura police identified the suspects as Prathima Devi, 22, Suresh Kumar Sharma, 27, and Mohammad Munna Alam, 22, all residents of Hoodi.

Suresh Kumar and Munna hail from Jagdishpur village in West Champaran district, Bihar, while Prathima hails from Gadmaria village in East Champaran district in Bihar.

“It was a challenging case. The Mahadevapura police inspector Goutham and sub-inspector Rohit meticulously planned and arrested the three,” DCP (East) Satheesh Kumar said.

Prathima was married and has a four-year-old daughter. Suresh Kumar too was married earlier. Prathima and Kumar deserted their life partners and married each other one-and-half-years ago. They moved to Bangalore and settled down as welders at Hoodi in Mahadevapura. 

Some time later, Munna joined them and started working as a welder. Prathima delivered another child five months ago. Soon, she started an affair with Munna. He would often visit her house when Suresh was away, added the police.

The owner of the house where Kumar and Prathima were staying had a six-year-old girl daughter. The owner’s daughter and Prathima’s daughter were friends, but fell out with each other recently. Prathima was indifferent towards the owner’s daughter thereafter, added the police.

Munna came to Prathima’s house late in the afternoon on September 1. He saw the owner’s daughter and desired to have physical contact with her. To fulfil his desire and to take revenge for having fought with her daughter, Prathima decided to help Munna in his act, added the police.

She held the girl, while Munna attempted to rape her. She thrashed the girl when she screamed for help. Prathima then gagged the girl’s mouth and Munna raped her. Later, Munna strangulated the girl. He pushed the body below the cot and went away, police said.

When Kumar returned home, Prathima narrated the incident to him and he wanted to approach the police. She threatened to commit suicide if he informed the police. Soon, the couple fled to Rajasthan, police said.

The police collected leads and went to Rajasthan, where they were hiding. Based on their inputs, they picked up Munna in Hoodi.
