H1N1 claims another life

A 30-year-old man admitted to a private hospital in the City on December 7, expired on December 22.  

The swab results of the deceased arrived only on December 24 testing him positive for flu.  In another development, nine fresh cases have tested positive for H1N1 influenza, out of which seven were from Bangalore and two from Bidar.  Till date 1753 persons have tested positive for flu in the State.

In the Assembly, Health Minister B Sreeramulu, while replying a host of questions on H1N1 said, as the disease may spread in the coming days, the district health officers have been directed to take precautionary measures.

He said there was no provision to give financial assistance to the families of those who suffered from the disease. The government had distributed 8.26 lakh of Tamiflu and spent Rs 1.5 crore, he added.

He also informed the House that 7 persons have died of Dengue. And, no person had succumbed to chikungunya and malaria.
