The Karnatak University registrar (administration) on Thursday lodged a complaint with the Lokayukta police against Vice-Chancellor H B Walikar, in connection with alleged abuse of power and criminal breach of trust.

The action comes in the wake of directions from Governor Vajubhai Vala, who is also the chancellor of universities in the State.

The governor, in his order dated October 1, has stated that Justice Padmaraj Commission of Inquiry, appointed to go into the allegations against Walikar, has submitted its report stating that prima facie the V-C has abused power, acted dishonestly and committed criminal breach of trust. He has directed the registrar to get the matter investigated under the provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act, Indian Penal Code and other relevant provisions.

Dharwad Superintendent of Police (Lokayukta) Parashuram told Deccan Herald that he had received the complaint and it would be forwarded to Upa Lokayukta for further action.

Justice Padmaraj had visited the university in September and examined the files pertaining to the charges and had submitted his report to the governor.
Registrar Chandrama Kanagali and Walikar were not available for comment.
