Modi wants Infy mentor Murthy as adviser

Last Updated 26 December 2009, 18:32 IST

“I would like to invite  Narayana Murthy to come to Gujarat and guide the state government as an advisor,” Modi said while addressing the Jain International Trade Organisation (JITO) international conference here.

Modi appreciated Narayan Murthy for advocating larger public participation in the electoral process for speedy economic growth and shared his concern over low voter turnout in elections.

It is not yet known whether Murthy accepted Modi’s offer made from a public platform as the Infosys founder’s speech preceded that of the Gujarat Chief Minister.

Murthy, who founded Infosys in 1981 along with six other software professionals and served as the CEO of the company for 21 years till March 2002, could not be approached on the margins of the conference for comments.

Modi, whose government last week ensured passage of a bill making voting compulsory in local self-government bodies, also advocated introducing the practice of negative voting.
