Overvoltage claims a life

The deceased identified as Shivappa (28), is a resident of Doddahalli village in the taluk. Police said that when Shivappa tried to switch on the TV he was struck by overvoltage. The incident scared the other residents in the village who deserted their houses.  Electronic gadgets like radio and TV were destroyed in many houses due to overvoltage, said villagers. They alleged that due to the negligence and apathy of Bescom officials a family had been orphaned.

This isn’t the first instance of overvoltage, expressed villagers who said that they had faced over voltage many times in the past. Though they had  complained to the Bescom,
officials didn’t bother take any action, the villagers fumed.

Protest staged

The villagers and the family of the deceased staged a protest in front of the hospital and police station demanding action against he Bescom officials and compensation to the owners of the electronic goods which were destroyed to the over voltage.

Leaders Gopalakrishna, Tamma Reddy, Chinnasandra Chandrashekhar, T N Rajagopal, Kurubara Sangha’s President Nagaraj and Venkataramanappa promised the villagers of compensation. Even Bescom and Police officials assured people of  compensation under legal purview. The villagers later withdrew the protest.
