Bhandage ton props up Karnataka

MS Bhan-dage’s quickfire ton (120) propelled Karnataka to a healthy total of 222 for four on the first day of the South Zone under-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy at the JSS SJCE ground, here on Friday.

Electing to bat first, the hosts began on an ominous note, losing openers D Padikkal (6) and Nikin Jose (13) in quick succession.

Reeling at 47 for three in the 13th over, Bhandage found able partner in Goutham Sagar (64 n.o.) and the two put on a valuable 131-run partnership to help their side recover.

Bhandage ‘s 104-ball innings included 18 fours and two sixs. Goutham played a contrasting knock consuming 136 balls for his half-century during which he struck 11 fours.  For the visitors, Sahik MD Rafi impressed with the ball claiming two wickets for 48 runs in 16 overs.
In Mandya, clinical bowling performance from Goa helped them bundle out Kerala for a paltry 139 in 69.1 overs.

Shanu Vantamuri (2/26) and Hitesh Talwar (2/41) shone with the ball while Arun top scored with 31 for Kerala.

Hyderabad: 97/4 in 60.1 overs (A Varun Goud 39 n.o., Suryateja 27 n.o.) vs Tamil Nadu (TD Lokesh 2-14, RS Jaganath Srinivas 2-25).  At Mandya: Kerala: 139 all out in 69.1 overs (Arun AB 31) vs Goa (Shanu Vantamuri 2-26, Hitesh Talwar 2-41).
