<p>The Election Commission’s decision to hold by-polls in three Assembly constituencies of Delhi may lead to dissolution of the Assembly. The commission has shown its readiness to hold elections if asked to do so.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Chief Election Commissioner V S Sampat said that the commission waited for a decision on dissolution of the Assembly. It is no longer possible to wait as the commission is mandated to hold elections within six months after a seat falls vacant.<br /><br />Election Commissioner Brahma clarified while interacting with reporters that if the Supreme Court or the Lt Governor of Delhi asks us to hold elections, we will do so.<br /><br />The commission seems prepared to withdraw the notification for by-polls if the Supreme Court or the Lt Governor dissolves the Delhi Assembly. In that case, fresh Assembly elections in Delhi will be held in one of the five-phases.</p>
