Contractors protest against MCC for delay in payment

Members of Mysore Mahanagara Palike matthu Vani Vilas Gutthigedarara Sangha, staged a protest in front of the Mayor’s office, here on Monday.

The Association of contractors demanded the Mayor to take steps to pay the pending bills for various works of Mysore City Corporation (MCC) and Vani Vilas Water Works (VVWW), taken up by them.

They alleged that MCC had failed to pay bills for works that were taken up “years ago”, and they were being made to run from pillar to post, with assurances that they would be paid for the works.

Loan

“Some of the contractors had to take loans to complete the tender works. They had hoped to repay the loans once the Corporation paid the bills. As a result, interest amount of the loan taken has increased, causing problems to the contractors,” the protesters said.

The delay in payment has made contractors skeptical of MCC. As a result, contractors were not coming forward to take up works, they said. The protest will be intensified if the pending payments are not made, the protesters said.
