ASC fight past SAI

Army Service Corps (ASC) registered a 3-1 win over the Sports Authority of India (SAI) in the opening match of the State Senior ‘A’ Division Volleyball league at the Sree Kanteerava courts here on Monday.

Playing their first competitive match in 12 months, the ASC spikers were rusty in their approach, but displayed spirit to keep their opponents at bay in a 23-25, 25-17, 25-19, 25- 20 verdict.

The first set saw both the teams exchange a number of rallies before spiker DS Manjunath of SAI sent down a fine smash to help his team secure the set. This was not before players from both sides played some top quality volleyball, PK Haridas’s work near the net to deny the SAI boys three back-to-back points being the best moment during the set.

Though SAI started the second set in an authoritative manner, the game tilted in favour of the Army men as MS Sunil went on a rampage to give ASC a 15-10 lead. ASC went on to protect their lead, winning the set 25-17. Trying their best to make a comeback, SAI were punished for their missed opportunities as ASC won the following two sets 25-19, 25-20  respectively. MEG ‘A’ defeated DYES, Bangalore 25-21, 25-13, 25-17 in the second match.
