The East Corporation is mulling to increase its parking rates similar to the revised parking charges of the south civic agency.

Last week, the East Delhi Municipal Corporation had postponed its move to revise parking fees to discuss the matter with the other two civic agencies. The North and South Corporations implemented new parking rates on November 1.

A senior official of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation said, “The East Corporation is most likely to follow South Corporation’s parking rates. The South Corporation’s revised rates are more feasible than North Corporation’s charges.”

According to the revised rates in south Delhi, one has to pay Rs 20 to park a four-wheeler for an hour at surface parking and Rs 100 for 24 hours. Whereas one has to shell out Rs 200 for parking a car for up to 24 hours in north Delhi.

But officials of the North Corporation slammed such assesments. “We are charging Rs 10 for every additional hour. One has to pay Rs 20 for parking a car for one hour and up to Rs 50 for five hours. But the South Corporation charges Rs 20 for every additional hour.

One has to pay Rs 100 for parking a four-wheeler for five hours in areas under south civic agency,” said a North Corporation official. “Going by this logic, the north civic agency’s parking rates seem more reasonable and practical,” he added.

Asked Commissioner of South Corporation Manish Gupta which civic agency’s parking policy the East Corporation will follow, he said, “The east civic agency standing committee meeting will take that call.”

“Every corporation likes its own policies,” said Gupta, who also has the additional charge of the Commissioner of East Corporation.

The Standing Committee meeting of the East Delhi Municipal Corporation is scheduled on Friday.

According to the revised rates by South Corporation, one has to pay Rs 10 to park a two-wheeler for an hour at surface parking (in front of markets), and Rs 50 for 24 hours. A day pass for a month will cost Rs 600 and Rs 1,000 will be charged for day and night pass.

One has to pay Rs 7 to park a two-wheeler for an hour at multi-level parking, and Rs 35 for 24 hours. A day pass for a month will cost Rs 400 and Rs 800 will be charged for day and night pass.

One has to shell out Rs 10 to park a four-wheeler for an hour at multi-level parking and Rs 60 for 24 hours.

A day pass for a month will cost Rs 700 and Rs 1,300 will be charged for day and night pass.
