Received from abroad as donations, the devices can magnify printed materials, helping persons with low vision to read anything from books to magazines and notices comfortably.
"Last year, we had a visitor from RNIB (Royal National Institute for the Blind) from London who told us that there are people abroad willing to donate low vision devices if someone is ready to bear the shipping costs," said Madhu Singhal, Managing Trustee of Mitrajyothi, explaining about the origin of the service.

One of the devices available at the centre is a CCTV monitor connected to a hand-held magnifying device. "When you run the hand-held device on the paper or material you want to read, its magnified image can be seen on the CCTV," said Krishan Kumar Murugan, Systems Administrator at Mitrajyothi.  "We are sure to get more enquiries since the city has a large number of low vision persons," Madhu Singhal said.
