A 72-year-old businessman was found strangulated to death at his home in central Delhi’s Jama Masjid on Sunday afternoon.

A bag containing Rs 6 lakh that the victim had carried to his home was found to be missing. None of the suspects were apprehended at the time of filing this report.

However, the police said the victim’s daughter has identified one of the two suspects as a former employee of her brother. The woman claims she found the two suspects in the house when she entered it, but they managed to flee with the bag.

The victim, Vir Sain, owned a saree store in Chandni Chowk area. He has a house in Jama Masjid’s Chhippi Wara Kalan area but lived with his son in another house at east Delhi’s Nirman Vihar. His daughter told the police she lived in Chhippi Wara and Sain occasionally visited his old house in that area.

“On Sunday afternoon, Sain called his daughter and told her to meet him at their old house in Chhippi Wara. She had told him about the bag of money he was carrying,” said a cop.

Just as she entered the house at about 3.15 pm, she found the door of the house open. Instead of her father, she found two persons inside who pushed her aside and fled from the house on seeing her. She rushed inside the house to find her father lying dead on the floor and the bag missing.

She took the help of some neighbours and rushed Sain to hospital where he was declared brought dead. While it appears he was strangulated, police said the exact cause o would be known after a post-mortem.

The woman then called the police who registered a case based. Claiming she saw him in the house, the woman has named her brother’s former employee as one of the suspects. The suspect used to work for Sain’s son till one year ago.

The police suspect the culprits must be aware that Sain would be carrying a large sum of money and must have followed him to his house. Initial evidence suggests that they broke open the door to enter the house, said the officer.
