Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has appointed G V Krishna Rau, retired additional chief secretary of Karnataka, as advisor to his government.

Sources in the Agriculture department said the Andhra Pradesh government would issue in a day or two an order appointing Rau as the advisor. He would be specifically advising and executing programmes related to increasing coffee cultivation in the  tribal areas of Andhra Pradesh, and agriculture marketing.

Rau, who retired from service in July, belonged to the Karnataka IAS cadre. But he is a native of Andhra Pradesh. While in service, he had pushed for reforms in agriculture marketing and introduced online commodity trading. He was also chairman of the Coffee Board.

According to the Coffee Board, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha are keen on bringing additional areas under coffee cultivation. An estimated 10,000 ha of land may grow coffee by the end of the 12th Plan period.

Naidu already has two advisors - Parakala Prabhakar, Advisor, Communications, and P K Agarwal, Advisor, Irrigation and Water Management.
