City in for spell of warm weather, sparse rain, says Met office

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast reduced rainfall and an increase in temperatures in the coming days.

This is because the low pressure area, which prevailed over the Gulf of Mannar and was bringing rainfall to the City, has now become an upper air circulation one and lies over Lakshadweep area extending up to 3.1 km above mean sea level. This is now moving westwards. So, in the process, the intensity of rainfall will reduce over the next 24 hours and gradually the day temperatures will increase, said IMD-Bengaluru Director B Puttanna.

Though rainfall will continue for the next 24 hours, its intensity will be less. Likewise, fogging during early morning and evening hours because of clouding, which was absent, is seen to return. Presently, the night temperature was near normal (18 degrees Celsius). But as rainfall will reduce, the day temperature will increase and the night temperature will start reducing as the cloud cover would also gradually disappear, he added.

Till 8.30 am on Friday, the City had recorded 15mm rainfall, while the HAL Airport recorded 11.5mm and the international airport recorded 16.5mm. Further, till 5.30 pm, the City received 5.3mm, the HAL Airport recorded 1.2mm and the international airport recorded 0.4mm.

The mercury level, too, which had dropped swiftly because of the downpour, is gradually increasing. While on Thursday, the maximum temperature was four degrees below normal, and on Friday it was two degrees below normal. The maximum normal temperature being 27 degrees Celsius.

On Thursday, the maximum and minimum temperatures in the City were 23.5 and 19.7 degrees Celsius, respectively. On Friday, they were 24.6 and 19.7 degrees Celsius.
Puttanna said the total normal rainfall for the month of November was 57.2mm. But so far, the City received around two cm rainfall (25.1mm), another four cm rainfall still remained, which would occur if another system would prevail.
