Delhi Public School (DPS) won the inter-school under-16 tournament (Division I) for the Karnataka State Cricket Association Cup here at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Tuesday.

Resuming their overnight score of 71/1, in reply to Ebenezer International School’s 256 all out on the opening day of the two-day final, DPS notched up 265/8 in their quota of 90 overs. The narrow lead of nine runs was enough to land them the title.

BU Shivkumar was the hero of DPS’ reply with an invaluable 90 (120b, 14x4) but he received good support from Hridai Raj (46), Varshith (33) and Samarth Srinivas (34).

Shivkumar’s innings was well paced which included 14 boundries. The DPS lad showed no signs of fatigue as he stitched a valuable partnership with Raj.

The day also some quality bowling form the boys from Ebenezer. Chinmaya N (2-38) and Munim Mehdi (2-29) were the pick of the bowlers, but their contributions could do little to stop the in-form Shivkumar.

Ebenezer rattled off 103/6 in 22 overs in their second essay and briefly raised hopes of a miraculous win after skittling five of rival batsmen in no time. But DPS held on to their nerves to end the day on 60 for five in 17 overs to emerge champions.

Brief scores: Ebenezer International School: 256 and 103/6 in 22 overs (Kushal R Shakti 26, Rohan Nayakar 37 n.o.; Advaith Jayaram 4-45, Aman Khan 2-21) drew with Delhi Public School, South: 265/8 in 90 overs (Shivkumar BU 99, Varshith S 33, Hridai Raj 46, Samarth Srinivas 34; Chinmaya N 2-38, Munim Mehdi 2-29) and 60/5 in 17 overs (Rohan Nayakar 2-14).
