A huge tree, which could be more than 50-year-old, located near the Kanteerava Stadium is at risk as a trench dug to lay pipelines by BWSSB has damaged its roots.

The Board had taken up the work of laying 600 mm dia pipeline connecting major sewer lines from Cubbon Park to Sampangiramnagar and to construct a manhole.

While digging the road to lay the pipelines, several roots of the tree have been damaged. Experts say that trees in Bengaluru are getting uprooted due to heavy rains and damaging the roots of this tree has increased the chances of it falling anytime.

However, BWSSB engineers have denied that they have caused any damage to the roots of the tree. An engineer said they have taken utmost care while digging the ground and even while laying the manhole, they will ensure that they do not cause any harm to the tree.

However, the tree is located in the heart of the City where thousands of motorists travel everyday posing grave danger to their lives.
